DA Valentino – A Leading Juvenile Sire Throws Down the Gauntlet

A son of the remarkable, world class sire Versace (Fame VF x Precious As Gold by *El Shaklan) DA Valentino is an obvious heir to the type and extreme Arabian characteristics his sire personified. Versace’s national record continues to impress even years after his death, and DA Valentino shows every indication of taking up that international siring tradition and continuing it magnificently. DA Valentino’s dam, DA Love has an equally impressive pedigree.

She is a daughter of leading sire and Reserve National Champion Padrons Psyche (*Padron x Kilika) out of Magnifficaa FA, daughter of Triple Crown Winner Echo Magnifficoo out of a daughter of multi-national champion, and leading international sire, Ali Jamaal. All three of these stallions have been leading sires in the Americas and virtually around the world. Literally unbeatable during his tenure in the show ring, DA Valentino ended his legendary Halter career as a six-time National Champion Stallion, two-time Scottsdale Champion Stallion, and a Supreme Scottsdale Champion.

The year 2011 will mark the first, baby steps of DA Valentino’s sixth foal crop. His very first two foals arrived in 2006 and his first born son, Prince Valentino SRA (x JJ Princessa by Magnum Psyche), was a Regional Yearling Sweepstakes Champion in 2007.

Currently, DA Valentino boasts 214 registered Arabian and Half-Arabian offspring. Of these, 59 are Champions or Regional winners and 13 have national show records. DA Valentino’s most impressive winner to date is probably Eccentric Valentino (x Amelia B by Magnum Psyche). A Scottsdale Signature Stallion Champion as a yearling and as a two-year-old, Eccentric Valentino was a U.S. National Top Ten Sweepstakes Colt in 2008, Canadian National Reserve Champion Two-Year-Old Jackpot Colt in 2009 and U.S. National Champion Futurity Colt in 2010. Credit for being DA Valentino’s first national champion offspring is shared between Valori TRF (x Satin Chall LL by Magnum Chall HVP), 2009 U.S. National Champion Yearling Sweepstakes Filly, Mi Bella Rosa (x Tequila Rose MTC by Legacy Of Fame), 2009 U.S. National Champion HA Yearling Sweepstakes Filly and Vitorio TO (x Sol Natique by Solstice), 2009 U.S. National Champion Sweepstakes Colt.

In 2010 Vitorio TO came back to be named the Canadian National Champion Two-Year-Old Jackpot Colt, while at the same show Valente LD (x Queen Adiamonds by Magnum Psyche) was Canadian National Champion Two-Year-Old Jackpot Gelding. Later in the fall, Al Patino CRF (x Alpha Phi) won the title of 2010 U.S. National Champion HA Yearling Sweepstakes Colt/Gelding.

The Scottsdale Show has been a extraordinarily dynamic showcase for the offspring of DA Valentino. In their first appearance at the Scottsdale Show in 2009 his offspring brought home three Halter championships and 10 Top Ten titles. That year the DA Valentino daughter Valori TRF was Junior Champion Filly. In the three years they have competed there nine DA Valentino sons and daughters have been open Junior or Reserve Junior Champion at Scottsdale. This is most certainly a record for a horse with only six foal crops to date. His record as a sire of Scottsdale Signature Stallion competitors is equally impressive. Eccentric Valentino, DM Valencea (x HED Caramba by Magnum Psyche), KFR Fiorentino (x Dana Francesca by Bacardi Afire), Baciano (x NBW Angels Kiss by Magnum Psyche), and Kharisma M (x Kharmel BR by *Khadraj NA) have won well over $100,000 showing in the Scottsdale Signature Stallion ATH Halter competition.

Valori TRF, Al Pacino CRF, Valentinos Dream CBA (x Magnums Dream by Magnum Psyche), Cavalli (x Aspyn by Padrons Psyche), Always Valentine MI (x Always An Angel by SK Shakla Khan), HVS Bella Valentina (x The Merchants Sweetheart), and Ebony By Valentino (x CF Mamies Night Out) have all been Scottsdale open Halter Junior Champion or Reserve Junior Champions. Onitnelav (x Royal Ghazallah by Marwan Al Shaqab) and Valente LD have been successful in the Scottsdale Signature Stallion and the open Scottsdale Junior Halter Championships, taking championships or reserves in both!

One of the most important things to note here is that the DA Valentino sons and daughters are at the very pinnacle of their classes. The majority of his winners do not simply “get by”. Of his 59 champions, 32 of them have been Regional champions and reserves. That’s over 50%. All but one of his national winners qualified with a Regional Championship or a reserve.

For the time being, line breeding to the best in DA Valentino’s pedigree has brought out the best in DA Valentino’s offspring. Of his 13 national winners three are out of Magnum Psyche daughters, one is out of a daughter of Magnum Psyche’s grandsire Padron and one is out of a daughter of the Magnum Psyche son, Magnum Chall HVP. Two are out of Bey Shah+ daughters and one is out of the Bey Shah+ son, NV Elite. In the group of 46 Class A and Regional champions, nine are out of Magnum Psyche daughters, five are out of daughters of Magnum Psyche’s sire, Padrons Psyche, and one is out of a daughter of the Magnum Psyche son, Magnum Chall HVP. Other prominent sire lines that reappear regularly on the dam lines of DA Valentino’s champions include Echo Magnifficoo, Marwan Al Shaqab and Ali Jamaal.

DA Valentino is at the very beginning of his career as a sire. The number of foals that he has produced is limited and his larger foal crops are only yearlings and two-year-olds. They account for well over 50% of his offspring. It will be several years before determinations will be made regarding performance. But his legacy and his ability to recreate himself and his glorious Arabian type and character is obvious. The quality of his best offspring is so exceptional that it is often difficult to verbalize. Fortunately there is little need. They are taking America’s top prizes with amazing consistency and the world rarely need to be told to turn around and watch them shine.
